Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, who represents Bothell in the 1st Congressional District of Washington, issued the following statement today on reports of DOJ’s collection of Associated Press telephone records:
U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene has introduced legislation to block the Department of Homeland Security from taking steps to impose a fee on people entering the country at land border crossings such as those in Whatcom County.
DelBene's bill is a response to Homeland Security's recent request for funding in its 2014 budget to pay for a study of how such a fee could be put in place. Her bill consists of a single sentence that prohibits Homeland Security from collecting a land border crossing fee, or from studying such a fee, on either the northern or the southern border.
Democratic Congresswoman Suzan DelBene is not a sponsor of the farm bill put forth today by House Republicans.
But the Medina lawmaker did get her proposal to boost job training for food stamp recipients included in the legislation offered up by Republican Congressman Frank Lucas of Oklahoma.
This morning President Obama was sworn in for his second term. Kurt and I were honored to be there watching.
I'm hopeful that the President and Congress will now have the opportunity to get things done. We must come together in a bi-partisan way to make that happen.
2013 is only a few weeks old, but it’s already been a busy and exciting year. On January 3rd, I was sworn in for the full-term to represent the 1st District in Congress. This past week I've been traveling throughout the district; from celebrating Redmond's centennial to touring the dairy and berry farms throughout Whatcom County.
