VIRGINIA VOTES ‘YES’ ON REDISTRICTING

Virginians voted to redraw their congressional representation last night, giving Democrats potentially four more seats in the midterm elections this fall. Republicans will have only one district — the 9th, based around the state’s southwest corner — that is a comfortably red seat.

Democrats are ebullient.

“House Republicans know they can’t win on the issues, which is why they tried to stack the deck through their corrupt gerrymandering scheme in states like Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, and now Florida,” Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Washington), chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, said in a statement. “Virginia will play a central role in our path back to the House majority, and we are well-positioned to flip seats throughout the Commonwealth in November.”
